Ten youth players ages 14-19 participated in six weeks of elite athlete training sponsored by the USPA in Sheridan, Wyoming, this summer culminating in the Archie MacCarty Tournament at Flying H Polo Club. Participants included: Avery Evans, Quinn Evans, Rexy Vicardo, Malia Bryan, Kaden Winterholler, Charlie Caldwell, Harry Caldwell, Liam Lott, Hope Arellano and Ben Lynch.
Young players from all over the country were selected by mentors who taught Young Player Outreach clinics and from Intercollegiate/Interscholastic All-Stars representing California, Tennessee, South Carlolina, Wyoming, Kentucky, Texas, Florida and Washington. Hall of Famers Tommy Wayman and Charles Smith along with USPA Polo Development, LLC, Executive Director, Kris Bowman began the training with intensive focus on horsemanship and swing analytics. The riding and hitting videos along with critiques that were filmed during the training will be saved in each player’s personal profile on Poloskilz.com so they can be accessed and updated throughout their careers. Several mentors attended the training such as Team USPA players, Santi Torres, Steve Krueger and Cacho Galindo, as well as professional players, Carlos Galindo, Hector Galindo and Carlucho Arellano. The mentors provided coaching on strategy, professionalism, horsemanship and team play. Game tape reviews as well as emphasis on teamwork and umpiring games were a weekly expectation.
“There are so many people who make this training possible, it is difficult to name them all,” exclaimed Kris Bowman. “When looking for help with junior players, you almost never get turned down! A special shout out to the Flying H Polo Club, Diamond B Polo Club and the Big Horn Polo Club for their support of the event.”

The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
