Following an injury that has sidelined Costi Caset from being able to compete, 5-goaler Peke Gonzalez will represent the United States in the Westchester Cup on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club in Windsor, Berkshire, England.
19-year-old Gonzalez recently competed in the 2018 Florida high-goal season at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida, and is currently playing in California at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club in Carpinteria. Gonzalez will join Julio Arellano, Jeff Hall and Nic Roldan in the United States’ pursuit to return the cup to U.S. soil, a feat that has not been accomplished since 1992. "We all felt we really needed a player who could blow holes up front," said USPA Director of Services Carlucho Arellano. "Who better than Peke Gonzalez, who also knows how to put balls through the uprights. He proved himself to to be a strong third player on a 20-goal team during the high-goal season in Wellington, and continued with the same pace to Argentina and now California. The idea is to just keep him flying."
The USPA wishes Caset a speedy recovery and encourages those interested in supporting this momentous event to visit the American International Polo Foundation at aipf.us.
