It is with great sadness that the USPA announces the loss of former 5-goal player and USPA Professional Umpire Rick Sears. Rick joined the USPA Umpires, LLC program in the 1996-1997 season and umpired many major tournaments throughout the years. He was also the recipient of the 2003 Polo Training Foundation (PTF) Carlton Beal Umpire of the Year Award. According to USPA Head Umpire Instructor, "He was one of the top umpires for the USPA for a very long time. He meant a lot to the Umpires, LLC and the Association, and he will be greatly missed."
Rick spent the last few years umpiring in California and was greatly loved by the polo community in both Santa Barbara and Indio. Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, has set up a GoFundMe account to help the family of Rick during this difficult time. Donations can be made by clicking here.

The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
