Six players traveled to the beautiful Passion for Polo arena in Barrington, Illinois, to compete in the Chicago area’s first USPA Middle School Tournament. Barrington Hills Green kicked off the scoring with a goal from Jackie Albrecht. Maximo Font followed up with a run to goal to add to the Green total. Barrington Hills White’s Hayden Boeh struck first to cut the lead to a single score, but Albrecht found the goal one more time to keep the Green lead at two at the end of the first chukker.
Jandro Brugue-Hernando and Boeh traded goals to begin the second chukker to keep the gap at two. After plenty of back and forth between the two teams, Font found the goal one last time before the halftime horn. Font opened the scoring in the third chukker, but the rest of the goals belonged to Barrington Hills White. Luke Misukanis and Arien Khan each knocked in a goal for White to shave the Green lead down to two at the end of the third chukker.
The final chukker saw a defensive battle between the two teams. Font broke away and aced a shot at goal for Green. Misukanis answered with one for White, but Barrington Hills White’s comeback fell short and Green took home the victory with a final score of 7-5.
Jackie Albrecht, Hayden Boeh, Maximo Font and Luke Misukanis were elected to the Tournament All-Star team. Font was also awarded the tournament Sportsmanship Award. Jandro Brugue-Herndando’s fourth chukker mare Perla was named Best Playing Pony.
