USPA Global Licensing Inc. (USPAGL), the official licensing arm and national broadcaster of the United States Polo Association (USPA), announced that U.S. Polo Assn. will be the official apparel outfitter for the USA team as they compete against England in the 2018 Westchester Cup.
The Westchester Cup, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious polo tournaments, will be played between the USA team and the England team on July 28th at the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club in Windsor, England. According to USPAGL CEO, J. Michael Prince, “U.S. Polo Assn. is proud to be a sponsor of the Westchester Cup and the official apparel outfitter of the USA team. In addition to supporting our home country team, our involvement with this historical polo tournament will continue expanding awareness of U.S. Polo Assn. across the U.K. and Europe as well as on a global basis.”
U.S. Polo Assn. will supply the apparel for the USA team both on and off the field, including performance jerseys for the game and formal blazers, shirts, pants, etc. for the many social events occurring around the event. Additionally, U.S. Polo Assn. will be providing product at the event for consumers through a “high energy popup shop experience” that will be located in the vendor village. U.S. Polo Assn. will also be promoting the event through the brand’s “Live Authentically” digital platform that will include key influencers from both the United States and England who will be attending the event. As Prince noted, “We continue to focus on high-profile venues that provide amazing experiences for consumers and sports fans around the world. The Westchester Cup is just another great example of providing these truly authentic and unique experiences.”
The Westchester Cup was last contested in 2013, with the English team being victorious. While the United States leads the series 10-7 in terms of victories, England has successfully defended the cup in the last three meetings. Carlucho Arellano, USPA Executive Director, will be coaching the USA team. He recently announced that the USA team handicap is 28 goals and will include (1) Mariano “Peke” Gonzalez, (2) Jeff Hall, (3) Nic Roldan and (4) Julio Arellano. For Roldan, who is team captain and suffered defeat in 2013, this is an historic opportunity for redemption and to return the Westchester Cup to the United States. As Arellano noted, “To compete for the Westchester Cup is very meaningful to the players. Whenever our players travel overseas to represent our home country, the importance of victory grows exponentially. This challenge trophy, which the winners retain, has a great history of healthy but fierce competition and has remained in England for the past 20 years. We believe our USA team is well prepared and extremely determined to win this year’s challenge.”
