USPA Global Licensing, Inc. (USPAGL), the official licensing arm and global broadcaster of the United States Polo Association (USPA) stated that U.S. Polo Assn., the official brand of the (USPA), will partner with Eurosport to broadcast the 2018 Westchester Cup. The Westchester Cup, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious polo tournaments, will be played outside of London between the USA team and the England team with the broadcast targeting over 200M households across Europe, Asia and India.
The Westchester Cup was last contested in 2013, with the English team being victorious. While the United States leads the series 10-7 in terms of victories, England has successfully defended the cup in the last three meetings. Top polo players from both the United States and England will be competing for the coveted Westchester Cup trophy. The USA team handicap is 28-goals and will include (1) Mariano “Peke” Gonzalez, (2) Jeff Hall, (3) Nic Roldan and (4) Julio Arellano while the England team is 25-goals and includes (1) James Beim, (2) Ollie Cudmore, (3) James Harper and (4) Tommy Beresford.
For the first time in the history of the tournament, Eurosport will serve as the official broadcast partner for the event and will air coverage of the match on August 13th, 2018. “Partnering with Eurosport was a strategic decision to increase global visibility of the Westchester Cup, the sport of polo, and U.S. Polo Assn., according to CEO, J. Michael Prince. “Our partnership with Eurosport will bring the excitement of this historic event to 200 million households in over 70 countries and 30 languages.”, Prince noted the brand continues to focus on high-profile venues that provide amazing experiences for consumers and sports fans around the world.

The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
