The Dutta Corporation announced the newest extension of the international horse transport business to provide a shuttle service between Port Mayaca Polo Club and Wellington, Florida, beginning January 1, 2021.
Tim Dutta, CEO and President, has always been concerned with the comfort of horses in transport and established his business, The Dutta Corp, as one of the major transport services of horses. With the amazing growth of Port Mayaca Polo Club as a major hub for top polo teams and team owners, a great idea suddenly came to Dutta. Knowing that helicopters provide the lowest vibration of any mechanical transport including cars and trucks, The Dutta Corp will now offer a helicopter shuttle service between Port Mayaca and Wellington.
“Fortunately through former university classmates I was able to purchase five Chinooks from U.S. Army surplus,” Dutta said. “We were even luckier because some of the pilots who were flying these complicated machines had reached their 20 or 30 years of service. Incidentally I observed in them a remarkable synchronicity with polo players who always want to stay close to their horses. These pilots expressed their intention to keep working with their machines so I hired 10 of them. I’m happy to give them a chance to continue what they do best.”
The shuttle will have morning and afternoon flights to service the game schedule in Wellington. Already approvals have been secured from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), with no small help from the Secretary of Agriculture who praised the best possible treatment for polo ponies playing in top competition. The Chinooks will land on the closest field available next to the tournament field played that day and the horses will be dropped off with their respective grooms. The construction of posts and enclosures might be necessary on some fields since there won’t be any trailers to keep the horses before and during the game.
Currently the helicopters are in the process of being retrofitted. “There is so much room available in the Chinooks, it is amazing and in many ways not so different from a polo trailer, just wider,” Dutta said. “No doubt the horses will love it, and they’ll still load from the back like a polo trailer.” Of course the grooms will be with the horses at all times with special sitting areas provided for them.
