TEAM USPA TO AWARD THE $10,000 EQUUS & CO. AWARD APRIL 17TH

Team USPA players Patrick Uretz, CB Scherer and Mason Wroe have been nominated for the 2016 Equus & Co. Award. The Equus & Co. Award is given to the Team USPA player who best exemplifies the programs principles by demonstrating outstanding leadership and commitment to growing the sport of polo. Equus & Co. is the Private Advisor to the Global Equestrian Community, providing effective access to global polo and the polo lifestyle with authenticity and credibility. The winner of the award will be announced after the Quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Championship® on April 17th at the International Polo Club. All three of these players are true leaders of Team USPA and the next generation of polo players and we congratulate them on their giveback and accomplishments in the sport.

CB Scherer (2 goals) graduated from the University of Virginia and works in real-estate investment in Boston, Massachusetts. Since graduating, CB has scrimmaged and helped coach the Harvard Men’s Intercollegiate team. He umpires at Myopia Polo Club during the summer when he is not playing. He is a board member at the Virginia Polo Club, helping to develop and recruit future players. CB also played in the Will Tankard Memorial Benefit game at the Myopia Polo Club, which raised over $4,000 for Tankard’s ponies.

Patrick Uretz (4 goals) graduated from Westmont College and is currently playing professionally. He was a member of the 2015 United States FIP World Cup Team that traveled to Santiago, Chile last spring. He is extremely involved in youth polo at the Santa Barbara Polo Club and in Wellington, FL, coaching, umpiring and helping with the National Youth Tournament Series games. He has also coached the Westmont Intercollegiate Teams, as well as, the Santa Barbara Polo School/El Dorado Interscholastic Team—generously donating tack and mallets to the Santa Barbara Polo School. He recently led a coaching session with the Intercollegiate players traveling to the UK to play in the Townsend Cup Intercollegiate Challenge. He was also on the Team USPA senior panel that spoke at the 2016 tryouts where he coached and played in the team practice.

Mason Wroe (4 goals) is from Cat Spring, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University. He is currently a full-time polo professional. He has played on high goal teams the past several winters in Wellington, most recently on Tonkawa, winners of the 2016 Iglehart Cup. He was a team member and helped captain the 2015 United States FIP World Cup Team. This winter, he was on the Team USPA senior panel that spoke at the Team USPA tryouts. He also coached and played at the December Young Player Outreach clinic hosted by the Polo Development, LLC in Wellington. During the Outreach he spoke with the players about his experience transitioning from college polo to professional polo.
