Team USPA Summer Training is in full swing in Sheridan, Wyoming. Team USPA members and Young Player Outreach participants have been working with many of the sport’s top professionals to improve every aspect of their game.
During the first week of training, the players had the opportunity to school their horses and work on their penalty shots with Hall of Famers Tommy Wayman and Charles Smith. Participants were also able to have their swings analyzed with the PDLLC Swing Analysis Program. The players have engaged in competitive practices at the Flying H, Big Horn Polo Club and the Diamond B Ranch with Shane Rice, Sugar Erskine, Jeff Blake and Mason Wroe. These mentors, along with the help of with the help of Tommy Wayman and Charles Smith, challenged the players to work on their strategy and effectiveness in their positions. Carlos Galindo is also currently mentoring the players, specifically helping them to obtain their umpire certifications.
While their training has been intensive on the field, they have also had opportunities to do some amazing off-field activities. Brendon Whittle, the head of Gillian Johnston’s G-String green horse operation took the time to give the players a horsemanship clinic, demonstrating the importance of ground work during every step of training. They have also been able to dissect horse legs with well-known veterinarian Dr. Paul Wollenman, talked with Tom Gose and Carlos Galindo about rules changes, worked with a personal trainer and even taken a yoga class. All of this has been done while taking care of their own strings of horses and umpiring at the Big Horn Polo Club.
Every player has had the opportunity of a lifetime to improve a great deal throughout the summer, not only in their playing, but also in their horsemanship and professionalism on and off the field. Thank you to the entire Big Horn and Sheridan community for making this incredible opportunity possible, especially the Johnston Family, the Beal Family, Tommy Wayman, Charles Smith, Jimmy Newman, Roger St. Clair, Mason Wroe, Carlos & Stacey Galindo, Shane Rice, Jeff Hall, Carlucho Arellano, Brendon Whittle, Boone & Bobbi Stribling, Tom Gose, Perk Connell, Ethan Gailis and many others for their generosity and time

The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC.
