TUSPA Mentor Weekend

“There are few scenarios in which a young female 0-goaler such as myself would end up on the field with former 9- and 10-goalers such as Adam [Snow], Owen [Rinehart], and Julio [Arellano]. For me, the Langdon Road Polo Immersion Weekend was such a unique opportunity because we played fast, clean polo, but without the pressure of winning a tournament game.”  – Team USPA member Anna Winslow

The Pro-Am League at Langdon Road Polo Club in Aiken, South Carolina, offers a perfect combination of fast, open polo and personalized instruction for players looking to improve their outdoor game. Anna Winslow, a current member of Team USPA and Lauren Biddle, a 2018 Team USPA candidate, played alongside 6-goaler Peco Polledo and 8-goaler Julio Arellano in two match games across from Team USPA mentors Owen Rinehart and Adam Snow. On Saturday, May 5, Adam Snow hosted a private stick-and-ball session for each amateur player to fine tune their swing timing and rhythm.

2018 Team USPA Candidate Lauren Biddle also spoke highly of the experience, “this weekend playing in the Pro/Am League gave me the opportunity to learn from multiple amazing professional players. I really enjoyed the coaching and pointers that everyone provided. On Saturday, we stick-and-balled with Adam and Owen, and everyone was tremendously helpful. We had the chance to have one-on-one coaching time and worked on several different drills. I am very grateful to have the chance to work with everyone this past weekend. I hope to keep working with Team USPA to better my knowledge of polo on and off the field.”

Coaching is one of the cornerstones of the Team USPA program. The Team USPA Committee guides each member towards finding a mentor to foster a relationship with and learn from as they fine tune their personal goals. As players progress in their career and with the program, they often take on roles as mentors and coaches for junior players and new members of Team USPA.

Team USPA is a USPA program designed to enhance and grow the sport of polo in the United States by identifying young, talented American players and providing mentored training and playing opportunities leading to a pool of higher rated amateur and pro players and the resultant giveback to the sport of polo.
