As arena umpire director, I am responsible for recruiting and training all certified and professional arena umpires. I am also responsible for the certification program within the Umpires LLC, certifying umpires for lower levels through umpire and rules clinics.
I am a third-generation polo player. My grandfather George Biddle played in Chicago. My dad Tom Biddle was former chairman of the USPA and actively played for over 40 years. My brother Tommy Biddle is a professional player and was inducted into the National Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame last year.
My dad had me on a horse when I could walk, and I began playing polo when I was 6. By the time I was 12, I was playing in tournament games. I grew up in Aiken, South Carolina and played football in high school and college. I earned a BA in communications from Mars Hill University in North Carolina. After graduation, I joined my father’s real estate business in Aiken. I worked there for 13 years before joining the USPA.
I am still based in Aiken where I live with my wife Katy. I have two daughters. Chloe, 19, is studying medicine at the College of Charleston while Lilly, 6, is in first grade.
Outside of work I am a massive follower of anything football. I also enjoy playing golf and turkey hunting. You may be surprised to know that I am an avid Civil War historian. I love studying the tactics and movements from that time period. Things on my bucket list include playing at golf’s cathedrals: St. Andrews and Augusta. I would also love to go to a Super Bowl that the Atlanta Falcons actually win!
Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020
The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
