In a joint effort to support the increase of American polo players on tournament rosters, the High-Goal Committee and Rules Committee have revised the American Rule. The revised rule will took effect January 1, 2023. Made up of high-goal professionals, team sponsors, polo managers, and representatives of key USPA committees, the High-Goal Committee believes the rule is a significant step in helping more Americans get high-goal opportunities.
1. The new American Rule, which applies to all levels of polo, took effect January 1, 2023.
2. A team with a non-playing sponsor must have at least two players who are both Registered Player Members.
3. Unless a team already has two Registered Player Members, any non-injury substitute for a playing sponsor or designated sponsor must be a Registered Player Member.
Please contact USPA Rules Committee Chairman Tom Gose at tomgose@retamco.com with any questions or concerns regarding the revised American Rule.
Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020
The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
