Story Courtesy of Port Mayaca Polo Club.
It is with great disappointment that we have determined that it is in the best interest of health and safety for our players, their families and team organizations and all the people that help to put on our polo events, for us to cancel the balance of 2020 winter tournament season at Port Mayaca Polo Club in Okeechobee, Florida.
We want to extend our sincere gratitude for all of your support throughout these difficult times. We hope you and your loved ones remain safe and healthy.
Due to rising health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to cease all gatherings of more than ten people, we have made the difficult decision to suspend all Tournaments and Events at Port Mayaca Polo Club in Okeechobee, Florida, through the end of March, at which time we will reassess the situation surrounding COVID-19.
While staff and partners directly involved with on-site horses and management will continue to care for the animals and property at Port Mayaca Polo Club, the club will be closed to all off-site members and guests. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we prioritize the health and safety of our staff, players, teams and their organizations.
We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you with updates and/or if we determine a different course of action is necessary. We encourage everyone to take precautions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020
The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
