The last team set to make their debut in the 2022 C.V. Whitney Cup® on Friday, February 11, La Indiana is led by American 6-goaler Jeff Hall who is competing in his fourth consecutive GAUNTLET OF POLO® at the International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC) in Wellington, Florida.
One of only four Americans who will have competed in all four C.V. Whitney Cup®’s since the GAUNTLET OF POLO® began, Hall has been a mainstay on the high-goal stage across the United States. After two years alongside 10-goaler Polito Pieres, Hall now leads La Indiana into competition with a revitalized line-up that includes Mariano Aguerre, Stewart Armstrong and young Lucas "Luckitas" Criado.
Entering the semifinals of the 2020 USPA Gold Cup®, La Indiana was poised for a run to the final until the COVID-19 pandemic suspended play. Resuming in 2021, Hall and his La Indiana team captured their first title in the GAUNTLET OF POLO® and completed the trifecta for Hall, who had previously won the C.V. Whitney Cup® in 1996 and the U.S. Open Polo Championship® in 2003.
Hall has his name stamped all over the biggest trophies contested at IPC, including three victories in the Joe Barry Memorial as well as an Ylvisaker Cup title. Holding a myriad of other titles, Hall’s excellence on the elite stage of polo in the U.S. may best seen in the Silver Cup® where he has amassed an incredible nine titles during competitions in Santa Barbara, California, and Houston, Texas.
Representing USA on the global stage in multiple editions of the Westchester Cup, most recently in 2018, Hall has been a significant polo figure in the country and will support Team USA entering the upcoming XII FIP World Polo Championships in October, where the semifinals and final will be held at IPC.
Hall returns to play in 2022 after a successful 2021 season where he ranked first among all players in the GAUNTLET OF POLO® in shooting accuracy (min. 10 attempts) at 57%. The consistency and reliability have been a staple of Hall’s play, as the 2021 season was surprisingly his least accurate despite ranking better than every other player, shooting as accurate as 63% in 2019.
Hall has provided that presence for La Indiana year after year, counted on to make the right play in the right moment and ultimately leading to more wins than losses for La Indiana in the last three editions of the C.V. Whitney Cup®. Hall’s experience will prove to be valuable alongside a familiar face in Mariano Aguerre, who Hall won the C.V. Whitney Cup® with in 1996.
A crucial part of a La Indiana team in 2021 that led all teams in scoring (13.3 goals per game), shooting accuracy (53%) and assists (5.2 assists per game), Hall is often seen in the middle of the game in the number two or three position and will join the young Criado in producing a potent attack once again in 2022.
Seen in his signature green helmet, Hall and La Indiana make their 2022 GAUNTLET OF POLO® debut against Cessna on Friday, February 11 at 12:00pm ET.
