The Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame wish to recognize outstanding polo ponies whose achievements on the field were singled out by contemporary judges and other experts in tournaments and shows. Any person may nominate a horse they feel is worthy of recognition.

Horses for consideration fall under two categories—before and after the Willis L. Hartman Trophy. Established in 1965, the Willis L. Hartman Trophy is awarded annually to the owner of the Best Playing Pony in the U.S. Open Polo Championship. For horses who played after the establishment of the Willis Hartman Award (1965 and after) emphasis will be placed on recipients of that award as well as Best Playing Pony winners in other major USPA tournaments or other notable awards such as Horse of the Year.

For horses who played before the establishment of the Willie Hartman Award (1964 and before) emphasis will be placed on horses who won the elite awards of the age, such as winners of the National Polo Pony Society Show, the Prince Friarstown Cup or were cited for outstanding performances by the experts of the day and/or in the publications of the era.

Horses’ names for consideration will be presented to the Nominating Committee by submitting an application which will be returned, completed and signed by the nominating parties.
