The Pacific Coast Arena League (PCAL) is set to kick off its fourteenth season in 2025 following a successful 2024 season. Spanning California, PCAL’s three host sites include Orange County Polo Club (Silverado, California), Lakeside Polo Club (Lakeside, California) and California Polo Club (Los Angeles, California). Taking place over three weekends from May through June, PCAL will host a range of diverse competition including A Flight (3-6 goal), B Flight (0-2 goal) and C Flight. New for the 2025 season, PCAL will introduce a 7- to 10-goal division, with one match per event. Additionally, all teams entering the 7-10 goal, A Flight and B-Flight will be required to commit to all weekends of PCAL play. Supported by the Polo Training Foundation, C Flight is designed for newer players with two-chukker games with all participants required to hold a -1 rating. C Flight provides an opportunity for participants to get their first experience in competitive polo in a safe and friendly atmosphere. As an introductory level, C Flight offers flexibility, allowing teams to commit to the entire league or participate in one location, if space permits.
“All three host clubs have thriving polo schools, and C Flight is a wonderful opportunity for new players to experience their first tournament in a fun and supportive atmosphere. It brings people together from different clubs, creating friendships and exciting, competitive games along the way.” – Katty Wong, Polo Manager at California Polo Club
After over 20 years of competition, PCAL has gradually shifted from an individual player-based league to a more team-oriented format. Heather Perkins of PCAL shared her thoughts on the evolution of the league and the changes ahead for the 2025 season. “Over the past few years, PCAL has made a natural progression to becoming a more team-based league,” Perkins said. “In 2024, the vast majority of teams played every location and stayed consistent throughout the league. With this evolution in mind, the PCAL committee made the decision to move toward playing USPA tournaments over the course of the 2025 PCAL and having teams in 7-10 goal, A and B Fights commit to all three locations. Texas Arena League has been successful with this format and we look forward to competing this way at PCAL.”
“Many players are looking to up their game, especially with the U.S. Open Arena Polo Championship returning to California Polo Club. The higher level of play affords an opportunity for players to improve their skills.” – Lakeside Polo Club's Nicole Bankhead
Each flight will have limited team spots, and electronic entries will be staggered. B Flight entries will open first on Tuesday, March 18, followed by C Flight on Wednesday, March 19, then 7- to 10-goal on Thursday, March 20, with A Flight on Friday, March 21. All entries will open at 6:00pm PST. To secure a spot for the 2025 season, teams will be required to pay the league fees in advance. PCAL entries will officially close on Friday, April 11, or once the flights are full.

The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
