With new tournaments, players and teams this season, Mashomack Polo Club will be in the spotlight of American polo for the coming summer and fall months. Their season just began with a competitive 4-goal tournament and will continue until the first days of October. Located on a 2,000-acre preserve in Pine Plains, New York, the club will offer some of the most competitive 8-goal events this season.
Six of the eleven tournaments that will take place this season are USPA events. The Northeastern Circuit Centennial Cup will be played for the first time, alongside other coveted trophies such as the USPA-sanctioned Eddie Moore Memorial, the Northeastern Circuit Officer’s Cup and the Northeastern Circuit Constitution Cup.
The 8-goal tournaments will also allow many young players to lead their teams in a competitive polo setting. With eight teams taking part, Antonio Aguerre, Juanse Olivera, Valentino Echezarreta, Milo Dorignac, Nicolás "Nico" Díaz Alberdi**, Facundo Frayssinet and Facundo Panelo, all at 19 years old or younger, will be playing throughout the entire season.
To add to Mashomack’s bustling polo scene, the brand-new polo school, led by Julio Ezcurra, will be hosting lessons every day except Mondays. Mashomack also has a Coaching League that provides newcomers and novice players an opportunity for meaningful playing experience.
One of the most important days of the season will be the International Polo Challenge (June 18), where a team from abroad will be invited to play against four Mashomack teams. This year, Ecuador will come to challenge the hometown Mashomack teams. This is a very significant annual tournament for the club, as the money raised is used to help provide financial support to the town of Pine Plains.
Mashomack Polo Club has undertaken a multi-year capital improvement program and now features five tournament-class fields, one practice field, acres set aside for stick and balling and a regulation outdoor polo arena. Stabling is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, as is turnkey boarding for players with smaller strings.
