After a long season in Aspen, Colorado, Jared Zenni* arrived in Argentina to play the Jockey Club Open with La Cañada Angiocor Daily Racing Form.

Jared Zenni’s first game in Argentina this year took place on Field 5 of the Jockey Club of Buenos Aires, a beautiful venue inside the racecourse. La Cañada were trailing 4-0 after the first half but managed to outscore the competition in the second half 5-2. It was not enough however, and La Cañada ultimately lost the quarterfinal against Indios (Alberto Heguey Jr., Jorge Monsegou, Juan Martin Zavaleta Jr., Ignacio Laprida) 6-5.

“Given that it is still a month to the Qualifier, our horses are only starting their preparation. Last year, the Jockey Club Open was played very close to the Qualifier, so we had much more time to prepare the horses,” Zenni explained.

Regardless of their first match ending in a direct knock-out, Jared’s team has a different goal in mind: the 2019 Palermo Qualifier. With a month to prepare, the team, comprised of Agustín Obregón, Ezequiel Martínez Ferrario and Alejandro “Ale” Muzzio, replacing Sebastián Merlos, has spent time training on the field and getting their horses fit.

“Last year was hard, and this year might be even harder. I hope we will do well. We are doing better on horses. Ale Muzzi is a great player and really fits our style, so I have hope.”  – Jared Zenni

Feeling confident about both his team and his horses, Zenni stated he has two new mares and another horse that traveled to Palm Beach for the winter and has returned to Argentina for the 2019 Palermo Qualifier.

“This year, we had great polo in the United States. [Aspen] is amazing, I loved it. You can see how much it has grown this year in comparison to previous years.”  – Jared Zenni

2019 will be unforgettable for American polo. There was a lot more action at clubs across the nation. Including Aspen Valley Polo Club (Carbondale, Colorado), which had several months of tournaments involving many well-known players.

"I played the whole Palm Beach season and it was great,” said Zenni, summarizing his year. “Then, in May, I played the Grand Champions League, with tournaments from 16- to 20-goals every weekend. It was a great month. Then I was in Aspen from July to the end of August, and there were great tournaments there too. Aspen has very competitive polo, and it is growing."
