A highlight of the summer season at Myopia Polo Club (South Hamilton, Massachusetts), the Chairman’s Cup culminated in a battle between undefeated Husaria Seagulls (Grace Grotnik, Stephen Burr Jr., Valentino Echezarreta, Manuel “Manu” Mazzocchi) and defending champions Del Rancho/Glen Farm (Sam Clemens, David Strouss, Carl “CB” Scherer, Ignacio “Nacho” Arbelbide, alt. Dennis Carrion-Diaz). Establishing an early offensive edge, Husaria Seagulls controlled play throughout the match. Featuring a spectacular eight-goal performance from Mazzocchi, contributing at least one goal in every chukker, Husaria Seagulls leveraged their early success to withstand second-half pressure from their opponents to secure a 15-12 victory.
Setting a commanding tone from the first throw-in, Husaria Seagull’s offensive talents were on display, Mazzocchi, Echezarreta and Burr contributing a combined 8 field goals in the first half. Dialing in before the horn, Arbelbide scored his second goal of the game, following Clemons' earlier goal, accounting for all Del Rancho/Glen Farm’s first-half offensive efforts. The first half ended in favor of Husaria Seagulls with a 10-3 advantage at the break.
Following two consecutive field goals from Del Rancho/Glen Farm’s Arbelbide to open the second half, a back-and-forth battle commenced. Making an impact on both sides of the ball, Arbelbide initiated a five-goal run in the final minutes of the sixth chukker, bringing Del Rancho/Glen Farm within three. Despite a valiant comeback effort, an organized attack sent Mazzocchi on an unstoppable run, scoring the final goal and solidifying Husaria Seagulls’ victory.
