HILLCROFT WINS USPA HERITAGE CUP AT PORT MAYACA POLO CLUB

Port Mayaca Polo Club located in Okeechobee, Florida, hosted the USPA Heritage Cup, March 3-12. Four 16-goal teams entered the tournament, eager to take home the title.

After bracket play, Hillcroft advanced to the final with a 2-0 record. Newport and Cria Yatay/Beverly Polo, both with a 1-1 record, held a shootout to determine who would join Hillcroft in the final. Cria Yatay was victorious in the shootout, and advanced to the Sunday Final with hopes of taking home the Heritage Cup.

Best Playing Pony honors were awarded to Felica played by Magoo Laprida.

In a competitive battle, both teams came out strong with Cria Yatay/Beverly Polo scoring first. Three field goals by Hillcroft put the score at 3-1 in their favor going into the third chukker. Magoo Laprida who was awarded MVP honors for the tournament came out on Best Playing Pony Felicia in the third, and scored three goals from the field. In addition to a penalty goal by Tommy Collingwood, with no answering goals by Cria Yatay/Beverly Polo, the first half ended with Hillcroft leading 7-1. Despite two field goals scored in the second half, the first half deficit proved to be too large to overcome for Cria Yatay/Beverly Polo. Hillcroft took home the title with a final score of 9-3.
