First and foremost, Greenwich Polo Club (GPC) in Greenwich, Connecticut, wishes to extend our deepest sympathies to those who have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and offer our most sincere appreciation to frontline healthcare professionals and all essential workers who have been working tirelessly.
GPC remains committed to hosting Sunday public polo matches at the club this summer. We hope to resume scheduled public matches beginning August 30, 2020, for the opening match of the 2020 East Coast Open tournament. With that said, due to these unprecedented circumstances, we have decided that it will not be possible to open to the public, as previously scheduled, during the months of June and July. This decision has been made with the utmost consideration for the health and safety of everyone who makes our events possible, including, but not limited to, our local guests, visitors from around the world, players, contractors and professional staff. It is our responsibility to the community to uphold social distancing efforts during these unprecedented times.
Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020
The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
