Struggling with the mounting pressures of life as an adult and mother, author Courtney Maum is candid about the adversity she faced in her battle with depression in this touching memoir. USPA member, Maum details her journey reclaiming her life through a return to the realm of horses after a 30-year hiatus as well as the mental health benefits she experienced based on her reentrance into the lifestyle. Currently a member of Simsbury Polo Club in Simsbury, Connecticut, Maum has continued her passion for polo, alongside her career as an author and mental health advocate. Her book is raw, emotional and particularly inspiring, as it shows the power horses and polo can have in providing meaning and happiness in our lives.
In her own words, “[this book is] about how reclaiming my childhood love of horses ultimately got me through a deep depression in my late thirties, and how that same love for horses led me to the sport of polo, which helped me to face my fears both in the saddle, and outside of the barn.”

The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
