On Tuesday, November 10, BTA and Iconica played in the opening game of the Texas Women’s Open at Houston Polo Club (Houston, Texas). Iconica finished the first half in the lead, with a score of 3.5-2. Both teams played hard in the second half, with goals by Iconica’s Madison Outhier and Hope Arellano* in the third chukker to bring the score to 5.5-2 in favor of Iconica. A hard-fought fourth chukker by BTA narrowed the gap with goals scored by KC Krueger and Izzy Parsons. However, Iconica clung to the win with the final score of 5.5-4.
In the second game of the afternoon, defending champions Polo Gear Coffee Company took on Lockton. Polo Gear Coffee Company’s Dawn Jones was on fire in the first half adding all three goals to the scoreboard for her team. At the end of the first half, Polo Gear Coffee Company had the advantage 3-0.5. Making a promising comeback, Lockton put one goal on the board in the third chukker and two more in the fourth chukker. Polo Gear Coffee Company answered back with another goal in the fourth chukker to win the game with a final score of 4-3.5.
On Thursday, November 12, Polo Gear Coffee Company secured their place in the final with a 6-5 finish over BTA. Claiming the second spot in the final, Iconica defeated Lockton 5-3 in the second game of the day. Polo Gear Coffee Company (Dawn Jones, Danielle Lussi, Tiffany Busch, Clarissa Echezarreta) will go head-to-head against Iconica (Madison Outhier, Maureen Brennan, Hope Arellano, Kylie Sheehan*) in the Texas Women’s Open Final on Sunday, November 15, at 3:00pm ET. The final will be livestreamed exclusively on Global Polo TV.
*Hope Arellano is a member of Team USPA and Kylie Sheehan is a Team USPA alumna. Team USPA is a USPA program designed to enhance and grow the sport of polo in the United States by identifying young, talented American players and providing mentored training and playing opportunities leading to a pool of higher rated amateur and pro players and the resultant giveback to the sport of polo.

The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
