On Saturday, July 28, the USPA will field a team consisting of Julio Arellano (8), Jeff Hall (7), Nic Roldan (8), and Costi Caset (5) to compete for the historic Westchester Cup at the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club in Windsor, Berkshire, England. Carlucho Arellano (5) will serve as the alternate and coach. The USA currently holds the record for the most tournament wins (10-7), but has not hoisted the cup high since 1992, when Rob Walton, Owen Rinehart, Adam Snow and John Gobin captured the win in a thrilling double overtime victory. Team USA will be hosted at the Cowdray Estate in Midhurst West Sussex where pregame practices will also be held. An invitation has been extended to the HPA to play the Westchester Cup on U.S. soil in 2019.
The American International Polo Foundation (AIPF) is campaigning to raise additional funds so that our team can procure the very best horses available. As many polo players know, great horses help to win games, especially when playing internationally! The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
