The Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly, established in 1996 and home of the prestigious Open de France, hosted an important event celebrating the 80th anniversary of D-Day. D-Day, also known as the Normandy Invasion, was a pivotal military operation during World War II that took place on June 6, 1944. A monumental event in military history, it was a turning point in the war when Allied Forces launched a massive amphibious assault on the beaches of Normandy, France, with the primary goal of liberating Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control. Despite significant casualties, this success marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany, as it led to the liberation of Paris and eventually the surrender of German forces in May 1945.
An American polo team visited the club for a series of friendly matches, adding a unique touch to the commemoration. The U.S. team, consisting of Major Joe Meyer, Captain Jake Flournoy, Captain Patrick Shanahan, and First Lieutenant Angus Paradice, showcased their skills in a series of matches against some of the club's teams. Competing against La Victoire, Sloughi Polo Team and King Christian X, the event highlighted the spirit of camaraderie and international friendship between France and the United States. The matches were a poignant tribute to the bravery and sacrifices made 80 years ago on D-Day.
