The first USPA Woman of the Year award was presented at the 2016 East Coast Open Final at the Greenwich Polo Club in Greenwich, Connecticut. The USPA Women’s Committee nominated and voted for women who represent all the criteria of the award. It was decided that the inaugural recipient of the Woman of the Year award would be Lezlie Hiner, the coach and founder of the Work to Ride program. Hiner has been featured on 60 Minutes, MSNBC, Sports Illustrated, HBO Sports and more for her Work to Ride program based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The program won the USPA National Interscholastic Championship in 2011 and 2012. Her players have been awarded both Interscholastic and Intercollegiate Player of the Year Awards along with USPA Scholarships. The USPA Women’s Committee proudly presents this remarkable woman with the inaugural award and looks forward to presenting the award to another amazing woman in the sport of polo in 2017. Please look for an interview with Hiner in the October issue of Polo Players Edition Magazine.
