2016 USPA Gold Cup®

The USPA Gold Cup® heats up the 26-goal season at the International Polo Club Palm Beach from March 10 to March 27. The tournament was created in 1974 to be a precursor to the U.S. Open Polo Championship® at Oakbrook Polo Club in Illinois. The USPA Gold Cup® was held at the Milwaukee Polo Club from 1975 to 1978. It moved to Florida in 1979 and became the crown jewel of the winter season. In its heyday, the USPA Gold Cup® was considered “the” tournament to win, some years attracting more entries than the U.S. Open Polo Championship®.

After a 17-year stretch at Palm Beach Polo and Country Club, in 1996 the USPA Gold Cup® moved down the road to Boca Raton at Royal Palm Polo & Sports Club. In 2002 the tournament headed back up north to Greenwich Polo Club, where play continued until 2004. Aiken, South Carolina, hosted the USPA Gold Cup® for the following two years. Since 2007, the USPA Gold Cup® has been held at the International Polo Club Palm Beach.

USPA COVID-19 UPDATE

Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020

The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
