Horses have been an obsession for me since I was 2 or 3 years old, even breaking the springs on my hobby horse. Growing up in a lower-income household without a family background in horses, I worked hard after school as a teenager to afford my first horse, a plain chestnut quarter horse mare. My years working on the racetrack solidified my appreciation for Thoroughbreds, a passion that continues to this day.
I discovered polo shortly after founding the Work to Ride program in Philadelphia 30 years ago. This sport has become a rewarding lifestyle, and I found my niche in coaching, teaching, and promoting polo. As an entrepreneur, I believe that common sense solutions exist for most problems.
Low and medium goal polo are the USPA's bread and butter, and I feel that arena polo is the most promising and affordable way to expand our reach. The East Coast boasts a dedicated core of great grass and arena clubs and an even greater commitment to the sport. To that end, Work to Ride is building a $13 million state-of-the-art multi-purpose riding and polo arena to be completed spring of 2025.
With a lifelong passion for horses and a commitment to the community, I am ready to bring my experience and vision to represent our clubs and explore ways to partner to better our sport. Together, we can ensure a brighter future for our sport and our community.
Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020
The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
