A native of South Africa, Mark has played polo much of his life and has trained horses (2 of the horses Mark trained have won Best Playing Pony in the US Open) and taught players for the last 20 years. Growing up in a family of polo players and horse trainers, he played polo competitively in South Africa from an early age. As a 4 goal professional, Mark played worldwide, which eventually brought him to the US to play. Now a 3 goal pro, Mark is actively engaged in growing the sport of polo in Houston, Texas.
In conjunction with the Houston Polo Club, Mark started the Step Up program, which enables players to follow a step-by-step progression to gradually grow their polo skills.
In 2012, with the help of Barlee Flanders, he started a nationally competitive Interscholastic program, for which he coaches and provides horses. He is the Director of the USPA Regional Polo Center Program at the Houston Polo Club.
Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020
The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
