Laura has been a member of the USPA 20+ years. She learned to play while attending Cornell University. After graduating in 1997 from Cornell, she did her graduate work at the University of California, Davis and took charge of the UC Davis Polo Club. In 2003 she moved to Washington, D.C. and started a new polo school at a club in Poolesville, Maryland. With 15 years of experience teaching, she and Hugo Pasten opened Mountain View Polo in Charles Town, West Virginia. She is the coach for the Mountain View Interscholastic Girls Polo program. In 2016 she and her OTTB gelding, Paulie’s Pick, competed in the Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover.
What has been one of your favorite teaching memories?
“Seeing the young kids progress in speed down the field without even realizing they overcame their fear of cantering, simply because they are having so much fun playing the game!”

The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
