Stacey has been a member of the USPA for over 40 years. Initially finding polo when a man from California brought a polo mallet to one of her childhood 4H meetings in Eugene, Oregon – the rest was history! Stacey met her husband, Carlos Galindo, when she was 18 years old, and they have played all levels of polo together, including running a polo clinic at the Tacoma Polo Club. Stacey is an accomplished player, reaching a 2-goal handicap, having won numerous leagues and tournaments over the years, including the 1983 U.S. Women’s Handicap and the 1985 Governor’s Cup at Eldorado, in which 35 teams were entered! Currently Stacey assists with USPA clinics and travels with her family to various polo destinations.
What has been one of your favorite teaching memories?
“One of my favorite memories is when our current sponsor was first playing in practice and was told to take the ball on the nearside. As she rode to the ball, she yells back "which is my nearside"! We all almost fell off giggling at her response. The next game, we put duct tape with "offside" on her right thigh and "nearside" on her left thigh!!”
Effective Date: Saturday, May 16, 2020
The suspension of USPA Tournaments and Events will be lifted for USPA Member Clubs in locales where hosting polo matches and tournaments is permitted under applicable state and local laws, executive orders and similar decrees. The USPA Member Clubs in these locales are encouraged to follow all such requirements of their state and local authorities with respect to polo operations. In addition, we also encourage all USPA Member Clubs to take the precautions recommended by the CDC. We are preparing a detailed list of best practices for USPA Member Clubs as they return to hosting USPA Tournaments and Events and plan to circulate these guidelines within the next week. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and will notify you if we determine a different course of action is necessary.
