Chief Financial Officer

Reports Directly To: Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER:
This position serves as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the United States Polo Association and its related subsidiaries. The CFO supervises all financial and administrative matters including accounting, budgeting, finance, investment management, risk management, loan compliance, and tax compliance; human resources; and information technology. This position requires strong analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills, including an ability to work well with Senior Management, Board Members and Volunteers, USPA employees, and outside parties.

This position is a member of Senior Management and reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel with indirect reporting to the Treasurer, Audit Committee Chair, and Finance Committee Chair.

POSITION DESCRIPTION INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

Responsible for financial reporting to the COO, the Finance Committee, and the Board in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, procedures, and principles for the 501(c)(6) organization. Communicates the USPA’s performance vs. budgets and objectives to the COO, Finance Committee, Board, and senior management
Supports the annual audit process. Ensures the preparation of the annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and related required information.
Monitors compliance with tax returns, federal, state, and local, as well as other reports, for legal and regulatory requirements.
Coordinates the annual budget preparation with the COO for review and approval by the USPA’s Board of Governors.
Provides oversight and direction to the USPA’s insurance program to establish optimum insurance coverage necessary to mitigate risks.
Monitors and ensures compliance with investment policies in coordination with the Finance Committee and external investment advisors. Establishes and maintains sound relationships with financial institutions and investment advisors.
Develops, implements, and monitors compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Works with the COO, Board, and USPA committee members on the USPA’s strategic vision.
Collaborates with the COO and senior management in preparation for critical business decisions and opportunities.
Oversees cash management for the USPA
Maintains oversight of departmental employees and contract service providers associated with the Finance and Administration area and their related functions.
Performs financial modeling and analysis.
Oversees Human Resources matters and payroll management in coordination with the Human Resources department.
Oversight of technology decisions, including financial systems implementations and upgrades.

Education and Experience
10 years’ experience in accounting, including a minimum of 5 years in a management role.
Master’s degree in business administration or accounting is desired.
CPA (Certified Public Accountant), and related certification such as CGMA (Chartered Global Management Accountant), or CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) preferable.
