WESTERN CHALLENGE
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Established in 1986, the Western Challenge is a national 12-goal tournament that has been hosted exclusively in Texas by both the Houston Polo Club (Houston, Texas) and Brookshire Polo Club (Brookshire Polo Club). In 2022, following a three-year hiatus, the Western Challenge returned to Brookshire Polo Club, where an an undefeated Eureka (Rene Campos, Alvaro Ara, Jorge Cernadas, Robert Orthwein) met Brookshire Polo (Scott Wood, Toto Collardin, Martin Muñoz, Francisco Rodriguez-Mera). An early five-goal lead highlighted Brookshire Polo’s ability to convert from the penalty line and create space on the field. The quick advantage ultimately held off a fifth chukker push from Eureka to claim the title 10-7. Read article here.
Featuring many players that have recently competed at various levels in the 2023 Florida season, this year's edition of the Western Challenge will field five competitive teams, including reigning champions Brookshire Polo. The returning victors will add recent Division I Men's National Intercollegiate Championship winner Vaughn Miller Jr. to their roster. Runner-up Eureka will return to challenge for the title once more, with Texas staples BTA, Old Pueblo and Tonkawa rounding out the competition.
Representing Team USPA are alumni Mason Wroe (BTA), Steve Kruger (BTA), Tomas Alberdi (Eureka) and Herndon Radcliff (Tonkawa).
