REGIONAL PRESIDENT'S CUP
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Established in 1998, the Regional President’s Cup encourages participation at the 4- to 8-goal level, while restoring the relationship between Regional and National President's Cup trophies. Reformatted in 2024, regional events held nationwide serve as qualifying tournaments for the National President’s Cup. Hosted by the National Polo Center - Wellington in Wellington, Florida, the National President's Cup brings together teams from clubs across the country for a chance to compete at NPC.
Teams qualify to enter the National President’s Cup by winning a Regional President’s Cup. Any USPA Member Club can apply to host a Regional President’s Cup, however qualifying events are awarded to only one Member Club in every circuit. The Florida Circuit, host of the National President’s Cup, is the only exception, with multiple Regional President’s Cup events awarded. June marked the start of the competition. The first event was held in the Midstates Circuit and Riverview secured the first spot National President's Cup.
There is no team entry fee for the National President’s Cup and teams that qualify in a circuit outside the Florida Circuit receive a $10,000 travel stipend.
In 2023, Amaro (Kris Kampsen, Antonio Aguerre, Scott Sorbaro, Esteban Matuz Hernandez) went head-to-head against Caledon (Darien Huang, Will Kayat, Felipe "Pipe" Miguens Casado, Esteban Panelo). Awarded .5 on handicap at the onset of the game, Amaro's early penalty success gave them the lead throughout the first half. Despite, strong performances from Caledon's Casado and Esteban, Amaro edged past their opponents for an 8.5-8 victory.
This year’s Northeastern Circuit Regional President’s Cup returns to NYC Polo Club in Patterson, New York. The event will also serve as the second qualifier for the 2025 National President’s Cup. Reigning champions Amaro will return to defend their title under the new moniker Amaro/Jefferies and will be joined by GTFO, NYC Polo and Roxbury Raiders each battling for the opportunity to earn a coveted spot in the National President's Cup.
