REGIONAL PRESIDENT'S CUP

REGIONAL PRESIDENT'S CUP

TOURNAMENT HISTORY

Established in 1998, the Regional President’s Cup encourages participation at the 4- to 8-goal level while restoring the relationship between Regional and National President's Cup trophies. Reformatted in 2024, Regional President’s Cup tournaments held nationwide serve as qualifying tournaments for the National President’s Cup. Hosted by the National Polo Center - Wellington in Wellington, Florida, the National President's Cup brings teams together representing clubs around the country for the opportunity to compete at NPC.

Teams qualify to enter the National President’s Cup by winning a Regional President’s Cup. Any USPA Member Club can apply to host a Regional President’s Cup, however qualifying events will be awarded to only one Member Club in every circuit. The Florida Circuit, host of the National President’s Cup, will be the only exception, with four Regional President’s Cup events awarded.

There is no team entry fee for the National President’s Cup and teams that qualify in a circuit outside the Florida Circuit receive a $10,000 travel stipend.

In 2023, Riverview (Aaron Barrett, Wesley Finlayson, Armando Huerta, Orrin Ingram) faced Mt. Brilliant (Bo Goodman, Juan Jose "Kako" Basualdo, Julian Daniels, Hutton Goodman). Establishing an early lead, Ingram led Riverview with six field goals to capture the 12-9 victory.

Continuing their success on the national stage, Riverview reached the semifinals of the National President's Cup, after earning a victory against Fross & Fross (Thom Fross, Paige Boone, Charly Quincoces Cendoya, Nick Johnson) in the quarterfinals. Representing the Midstates Circuit all the way to the final four, Audi (Milo Mac Donough, Digvijay "Gig" Singh, Martin Jauregui, Marc Ganzi, sub. Tomas Pieres) ultimately ended Riverview's impressive NPC bid with a 10-8 win.

This year's edition of the Regional President's Cup hosted by Nashville Polo Club (Franklin, Tennessee) will serve as the first qualifying tournament for the 2025 National President's Cup. Fielding four competitive teams, Riverview will attempt to defend their title as Midstates Circuit champions, alongside Mt. Brilliant, Manderleigh Polo and Poplar Hill/KPG each battling for an opportunity to compete in the National President's Cup.

Nashville Polo Club located in Franklin, Tennessee, will be taking advantage of the USPA's Tournament Support Program (TSP) for the Regional President's Cup, which provides eligible USPA Member Clubs with waived tournament fees, trophies or trophy reimbursements up to $1,200, one professional umpire and $2,500 in prize money at no extra cost.

The USPA originally created the Tournament Stimulus Package (TSP) to help member clubs host USPA events when the United States was emerging from the first wave of the COVID-19 crisis. The USPA wanted to continue to support member clubs with TSP benefits in 2022. Therefore, it extended and expanded TSP under a new name—the Tournament Support Program. Each USPA Member Club can obtain TSP benefits for two USPA events, with the option of a third under specific circumstances.

REGIONAL PRESIDENT'S CUP

THE VENUE

Nashville Polo Club is located in Franklin, Tennessee, just 30 minutes south of Music City. The club consists of three full size Bermuda fields located on the beautiful grounds of Riverview Farm, owned by Orrin Ingram. Over 50 years old, Nashville Polo Club was founded by the late Martin Brown Sr. and his legacy continues with his grandson Max Scott-Barnes who is currently the clubs youngest member at 13 years old.

Nashville Polo Club’s season runs from mid-May to mid-October. In June 2024, Nashville Polo Club will proudly host the Midstates Circuit Sportsmanship Cup and the Regional President's Cup, which serves as the Midstates qualifier for the National President's Cup to be played for in 2025 at the National Polo Center - Wellington.

The focus for the remainder of the summer season involves club weekend tournaments that include most of the club's membership, visiting teams and players from neighboring states. James Armstrong, a former 6-goal player, has managed Nashville Polo Club for over 20 years and also currently owns Franklin Polo Academy that partners with the club to encourage new players to enter into the sport.
