NORTH AMERICAN CUP®
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Established in 1974, the North American Cup® has been a staple in American and Canadian polo for several decades played at the 16- to 20-goal level. The first winners of the tournament Tulsa boasted Hall of Famers John T. Oxley and Dr. William “Billy” Linfoot along with Corky Linfoot and Jason “Jim” MacGinley. During the late 1990s and early 2000s Calgary Polo Club in Alberta, Canada, was host to the tournament with Millarville dominating the competition. Residing at Grand Champions Polo Club (GCPC), in Wellington, Florida, since 2011, the North American Cup® relocated in 2019 to sister club Aspen Valley Polo Club (Aspen, Colorado) and returned to GCPC in 2020.
In 2020, Newport (Gene Goldstein, Sugar Erskine, Michel Dorignac, Juan Bollini) went up against Casablanca (Grant Ganzi, Henry Porter, Juancito Bollini, Nic Roldan) in the North American Cup® final, Casablanca coming out on top with a final score of 14-9.
Among the 2021 competition are both 2020 finalists, however both teams feature different line-ups with Gene Goldstein (Newport), Sugar Erskine (Newport) and Team USPA alumni Grant Ganzi (Casablanca) as the only returning players. 8-goalers Nic Roldan and Santiago Toccalino highlight newcomers Audi and Seminole Casino Coconut Creek respectively, as they seek to overcome the defending champions. 12 of the 16 competing players are GAUNTLET OF POLO® alumni, showcasing a high-level of play at Grand Champions Polo Club.
