EAST COAST OPEN & HANDICAP WOMEN'S POLO CHAMPIONSHIPS
Tournament History
The second annual East Coast Open & Handicap Women's Polo Championships presented by Dechra will be hosted by Newport Polo Club (also known as Westchester Polo Club) in Newport, Rhode Island, in conjunction with the Myopia Polo Club in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. The tournament features four top-level teams in each division competing for the Sunny Hale and Anne Hutchinson silver trophies. Hale is remembered as a passionate ambassador for the players and horses of polo, and considered to be one of the all-time greatest female polo players and role model for many women in the sport. Hutchinson, a champion of civil liberty and toleration in the colonial era, became the first woman to found a community in the New World (Portsmouth, Rhode Island - 1638) and is revered in New England as a heroine of freedom.
In addition, this year a total of $3,200 will be awarded to the winning and second place teams of the East Coast Open Women's Polo Championship made possible through the USPA Tournament Prize Money Matching Program. The tournament winner will receive $2,000 and $1,200 will be awarded to the first runner up. U.S. Polo Assn. will serve as the official team uniform supplier.
