CHAIRMAN'S CUP
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Established in 1974, the Chairman's Cup (formerly the Twelve Goal) is an 8- to 12-goal national outdoor tournament. Played at multiple clubs across the country, the Chairman's Cup found its current home in 1991 at Myopia Polo Club in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. Millpond currently heads the tournament leaderboard with five titles (1995, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005).
In 2023, an undefeated Del Rancho/Glen Farm (Sam Clemens, David Strouss, Carl "CB" Scherer, Ignacio "Nachi" Viana, alt. Dennis Carrion-Diaz) clashed against Kingswood/Longmeadow (Ariadne "Ari" Dogani, Reed "Parker" Miller, Federico Wulff, Ernesto "Rulo" Trotz, sub. Segundo Caimi). Led by a spectacular 8-goal performance from Viana, Del Rancho/Glen Farm's offensive firepower vaulted them to an 11-8 triumph. Read article here.
A highlight of the summer season at Myopia Polo Club, this year's edition of the Chairman's Cup will field five talented teams including Blackburn Farm, Del Rancho/Glen Farm, Husaria Seagulls, Kingswood/Longmeadow and Kingswood/Reagan.
Featuring numerous Myopia staples, defending champions Sam Clemens and David Strouss will team up once more for Del Rancho/Glenn Farm, as 2023 finalists Kingswood/Longmeadow will attempt to avenge last year's loss. 2021 winner Grace Grotnik, who has previously played alongside Strouss and Clemens, will join forces with fellow Chairman's Cup champions Manuel Mazzocchi (2019, 2020, 2021) and Stephen Burr Jr. (2018) for Husaria/Seagulls. Rounding out the talented competition, 2012 victor Tomas Goti returns for newcomer Blackburn Farm, alongside Kingswood/Reagan, each hoping to claim their first Chairman's Cup title.
Myopia Polo Club will be taking advantage of the USPA's Tournament Support Program (TSP) for the Chairman's Cup, which provides eligible USPA Member Clubs with waived tournament fees, trophies or trophy reimbursements, one professional umpire and $2,500 in prize money at no extra cost.
The USPA originally created the Tournament Stimulus Package (TSP) to help member clubs host USPA events when the United States was emerging from the first wave of the COVID-19 crisis. The USPA wanted to continue to support member clubs with TSP benefits in 2022. Therefore, it extended and expanded TSP under a new name - the Tournament Support Program. Each USPA Member Club can obtain TSP benefits for two USPA events, with the option of a third under specific circumstances.
